McMurry University to host Sikes-Melugin Lectureship

ABILENE, TexasThe Religion and Philosophy Department at McMurry University will host guest lecturer Dr. Robert Wilken, distinguished scholar of early and medieval Christianity, at the Sikes-Melugin Lectureship March 4-5.
Dr. Wilken will speak on “Ancient Christian Roots of Religious Freedom” at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 4, and “Christianity and Religious Freedom in Colonial America” at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 5.  Both lectures will be in the Furr Welcome Center and are open to the public free of charge.
Dr. Wilken is the William R. Kenan Professor of the History of Christianity Emeritus at the University of Virginia.  He is the author of 12 books, including The First Thousand Years: A Global History of Christianity, The Spirit of Early Christian Thought, and The Christians as the Romans Saw Them.
The Sikes-Melugin Lectureship in Religious Studies was given in honor of Opie L. and John G. Sikes and Ruby D. and Roy Melugin Sr., by their children and grandchildren.
